2027: APC Plans Campaign Around Tinubu’s Record, Says Yari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will base its campaign for the 2027 general election largely on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than making fresh promises to Nigerians.

Former Zamfara State Governor and APC chieftain, Abdul’Aziz Yari, disclosed this while speaking on the party’s preparations for the next general election.

Yari said the ruling party would have enough accomplishments to present to voters by the time campaigns for the 2027 election begin, arguing that the administration should be judged by what it has delivered rather than by promises of what it intends to do.

According to him, the APC’s message to the electorate would focus on the policies and programmes implemented under Tinubu and the results recorded from them.

He said the party would not need to rely heavily on new promises because Nigerians would have the opportunity to assess the administration’s performance before deciding whether to renew its mandate.

Yari’s position comes as political parties and potential presidential contenders gradually intensify preparations for the 2027 election.

The APC is expected to defend the presidency and make a case for Tinubu’s re-election, while opposition parties and political groups are also working to build platforms capable of challenging the ruling party.

The former Zamfara governor maintained that the APC would approach the election with confidence based on what he described as the administration’s record in office.

He suggested that the party’s campaign would require it to explain the impact of government policies to voters and demonstrate how those measures had addressed some of the country’s economic and developmental challenges.

The approach represents a shift from campaign messaging centered primarily on future pledges, with the APC intending to make the administration’s record a major part of its argument for another term.

Since taking office, the Tinubu administration has introduced several major economic reforms, including changes to fuel subsidy policy and foreign exchange management. The government has argued that the reforms are necessary to reposition the economy, although they have also generated significant public debate over their effect on living costs.

The APC is expected to use the coming months to highlight what it considers positive outcomes from those policies and other government programmes.

Yari’s comments also come at a time when the political environment ahead of 2027 is becoming increasingly competitive, with opposition figures and groups exploring possible alliances and strategies for taking on the ruling party.

For the APC, the challenge will be to convince voters that the gains it identifies in the administration’s record outweigh the difficulties many Nigerians have experienced during the same period.

The party will therefore have to communicate its achievements across different sectors while addressing concerns over the economy, security, employment and the cost of living.

Yari’s statement indicates that the ruling party intends to make that record the centerpiece of its electoral message.

Rather than promising voters what the government would do if returned to power, the APC is preparing to ask Nigerians to assess what has already been done under Tinubu and use that record in deciding whether to support the President for another term.

With the 2027 election approaching, the coming political campaign is expected to produce competing interpretations of the administration’s performance, as the APC seeks to defend its record and opposition parties attempt to convince voters that a change of government is necessary.
