The media office of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of failing to adequately address some of Nigeria’s major economic and social challenges.
In a statement issued ahead of the 2027 general election, Obi’s camp listed what it described as several shortcomings of the Tinubu administration and questioned the government’s handling of the country’s resources and public finances.
The former Anambra State governor’s team also raised concerns about the impact of government policies on ordinary Nigerians, particularly amid continued economic hardship and pressure on households.
According to Obi’s media office, the administration has not done enough to translate its economic policies into meaningful improvements in the living conditions of citizens.
The camp further criticised the government over its approach to borrowing and questioned whether the funds obtained through loans were producing sufficient benefits for Nigerians.
It also raised concerns about insecurity, arguing that the government still faces significant challenges in protecting lives and property across the country.
Other issues highlighted by Obi’s team include governance, public-sector efficiency and the management of government institutions.
The criticism comes as political parties and presidential contenders begin intensifying their campaigns and policy arguments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obi, who is seeking to return to the presidential contest under the NDC, has consistently presented his political platform around economic reform, prudent management of public resources, job creation and improved governance.
The latest statement is part of the growing political debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration, with opposition figures increasingly using the government’s record as a major campaign issue ahead of 2027.
The Tinubu administration, however, has repeatedly defended its economic reforms, arguing that the policies are designed to stabilise the economy, attract investment and create the foundation for sustainable growth.
The government has also maintained that some of the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing are consequences of necessary reforms and that the benefits will become more evident over time.
