The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public to disregard a fake recruitment notice currently circulating online, describing it as fraudulent and misleading.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, on Sunday.
According to the Navy, the false notice claims that the service has opened a recruitment portal for interested applicants. It urged members of the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to individuals seeking to exploit the purported exercise.
The Navy stressed that it has not commenced any new recruitment exercise and has not authorised the circulation of the notice being shared.
The service advised prospective applicants to rely only on information released through its official communication channels for updates on recruitment and other activities.
It also warned members of the public against paying money to individuals or groups claiming to have connections within the Navy or promising to secure recruitment slots.
The Navy reiterated that any genuine recruitment exercise would be publicly announced through its recognised channels and urged Nigerians to verify such information before taking any action.
The warning comes amid concerns over fraudulent recruitment schemes in which unsuspecting applicants are often asked to provide personal information or make payments in exchange for supposed employment opportunities.
