The Investments and Securities Tribunal is stepping up efforts to digitise its operations as part of a broader plan to make the resolution of capital market disputes faster and more efficient.

The tribunal is working towards the introduction of an electronic filing system, with preparations reportedly at an advanced stage. According to the tribunal, it has procured information and communication technology equipment and is training staff and members of the legal profession ahead of the commencement of the e-filing process.

The development is expected to reduce reliance on physical documents and streamline the process of filing and managing cases before the tribunal.

The Investments and Securities Tribunal is a specialised judicial body responsible for resolving disputes arising from Nigeria’s capital market. It has jurisdiction over disputes involving investors, capital market operators, public companies, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other relevant market institutions.

The tribunal’s digitalisation drive comes amid wider efforts within Nigeria’s judiciary to adopt technology in court administration. The Supreme Court, for instance, introduced its electronic filing system and National Case Management System in 2026 to facilitate digital management of cases and court processes.

The tribunal said its e-filing initiative is about 90 per cent ready, with its implementation also linked to the completion of related work by the National Judicial Council’s information and communication technology committee.

The tribunal currently operates a fast-track system for capital market disputes, with its mandate providing for the expeditious determination of cases. It also provides alternative dispute resolution services, including mediation, for parties who voluntarily choose that route.

With the planned digital system, stakeholders in the capital market are expected to have a more streamlined process for submitting and managing cases, while the tribunal continues its mandate of providing timely and accessible dispute resolution.
