A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has raised concerns about Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, saying the US cannot afford to allow any attempt to undermine the polls.
The firm made the statement in a post on its verified X account on Thursday, September 24, while discussing the importance of free and fair elections in Nigeria.
According to the firm, credible elections in Nigeria are important to protecting US interests in the country and the wider West African region.
It also made allegations concerning the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu, including claims about corruption and the use of state institutions. These remain claims made by the private firm and are not presented as findings of the US government.
The firm further argued that what it described as poor governance could have wider regional implications, drawing comparisons with political developments in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
However, the statement should not be interpreted as an official position of the United States government, as Von Batten-Montague-York is a private lobbying and policy advisory firm.
With the 2027 elections approaching, electoral integrity and the role of both domestic and international stakeholders are expected to remain subjects of public debate.
