Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has paid tribute to his late colleague and longtime friend, Olu Jacobs, describing him as a peaceful and humorous man whose legacy will endure.

Edochie spoke about Jacobs in an emotional video shared online following the actor’s death on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.

Recalling their relationship, Edochie said he, Jacobs and Jacobs’ wife, actress Joke Silva, shared a private bond and even had an inside joke known only to the three of them.

He described Jacobs as someone who brought humour and warmth into his relationships, despite his stature as one of Nigeria’s most respected actors.

The veteran actor also commended Joke Silva for standing by her husband throughout his prolonged health challenges.

Edochie acknowledged the dedication Silva showed in caring for Jacobs during the final years of his life, describing her support as significant during a difficult period.

He also reflected on the loss of members of their generation, expressing sadness that many of their contemporaries are no longer alive.

Hopes Jacobs’ legacy continues

Edochie said he hoped one of Jacobs’ children would eventually pursue acting and help preserve the family’s connection to the Nigerian film industry.

Jacobs and Edochie were among the prominent actors of their generation whose careers helped shape Nigeria’s film and television industry.

Jacobs’ death has triggered tributes from colleagues, fans and industry organisations, with the Actors Guild of Nigeria describing him as an icon whose contribution to African cinema would be remembered.

Edochie’s tribute adds to the growing remembrance of Jacobs’ career and the impact he had on generations of Nigerian actors and audiences.
