The Kano State House of Assembly has called for urgent assistance for rice farmers whose farmlands and crops were destroyed by flooding across parts of the state.

The appeal followed concerns over the impact of the floods on farmers who depend on rice production for their livelihoods and food supplies.

Members of the Assembly said the affected farmers needed immediate intervention to help them recover from the losses suffered during the flooding.

The lawmakers urged the relevant government agencies and other stakeholders to provide relief materials, farming inputs and financial support to enable the affected farmers return to production.

They also stressed the need for stronger measures to prevent future flooding and reduce its impact on agricultural communities.

The Assembly noted that supporting affected farmers would not only protect their livelihoods but also help sustain food production and strengthen food security in the state.

The lawmakers called for a coordinated response involving government agencies, agricultural organisations and other stakeholders to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance based on the needs of affected farmers.

They further urged farmers in flood-prone areas to take appropriate precautions and pay attention to early warnings from relevant authorities.
