Nigerian singer Mayorkun has recalled a piece of advice Davido gave him shortly after he rose to fame, revealing how the singer warned him about the attention that comes with celebrity status.
Speaking on the “In My Opinion” show, Mayorkun said he was initially excited by the attention he began receiving from women after his music career took off.
According to him, Davido pulled him aside and gave him what he described as “street OT” — practical advice based on his own experience in the entertainment industry.
Mayorkun recalled that Davido warned him that some of the women attracted to him because of his fame might not remain interested if his popularity eventually faded.
He said Davido told him that once he stopped being the latest popular artiste, some of the women who were around him could simply move on to the next rising star.
Mayorkun said he took the advice seriously and eventually realised that Davido had been right.
The singer, who began his career under Davido’s DMW record label, credited the advice with helping him remain grounded and avoid some of the relationship controversies that often come with fame.
The revelation has generated reactions online, with some fans praising Davido for looking out for Mayorkun, while others joked that the advice was simply common sense.
The story has also highlighted the mentor-mentee relationship between the two artistes, showing that Davido’s influence on Mayorkun extended beyond music and into navigating the pressures that come with fame.
