Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has outlined his plans for Nigeria if elected president.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Igbo, Obi said his administration would focus on rebuilding the country’s healthcare system, strengthening national unity, tackling insecurity and fighting corruption.

The former Anambra State governor said he would prioritise unity among Nigerians, regardless of their states of origin, while pursuing policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

Obi also promised to tackle insecurity across the country to enable farmers to safely return to their farms and increase agricultural production.

On corruption, he pledged to take decisive action against criminality within government and recover funds allegedly looted from public coffers.

According to him, recovered funds would be redirected towards creating employment opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians.

“I will build our healthcare sector and make it better. I will make sure I prioritise love and unity among every Nigerian, regardless of the state they come from.”

He added: “I will make sure I tackle insecurity so that our farmers can return to their farms. I will also deal with criminality in government and use the money recovered to create employment opportunities for our youths.”

The promises form part of Obi’s proposed agenda ahead of the 2027 presidential election, as political parties and candidates begin to outline their programmes to Nigerians.
