Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has launched a scathing criticism of some Nigerian state governors, accusing them of neglecting development while allegedly prioritising the mismanagement of public funds.
Emenike voiced his frustration in a post on Instagram on Wednesday, expressing disappointment with what he described as the arrogance of some political leaders and their apparent lack of plans for the future of their states.
The former international also questioned the role of security personnel who protect political office holders, despite the economic difficulties facing many Nigerians.
In his post, Emenike described the country as an “embezzlement ground”, suggesting that the situation had left him disillusioned with Nigeria’s leadership.
“The arrogance and confidence in some of these governors make me sick,” he wrote, alleging that many had no meaningful development plans for their states.
He further criticised the situation in which police officers and military personnel continue to provide security for politicians while ordinary Nigerians struggle with economic hardship.
Although Emenike did not mention any governor by name, his comments have drawn attention to
ongoing public concerns about accountability, governance and the management of public resources.
Emenike represented Nigeria between 2011 and 2015, making 37 appearances for the national team and scoring nine goals.
He was also a key member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, finishing the tournament as joint top scorer with four goals.
His latest remarks have added his voice to the growing public debate over leadership and the country’s development challenges.
