A 15-year-old girl in Guatemala has stunned her family and community after regaining consciousness inside a coffin during her funeral, hours after her relatives believed she had died.
The teenager, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical facility after she complained of severe chest pain.
According to reports, her father checked her breathing and pulse but could not detect any signs of life. Believing that his daughter had died, he abandoned the journey to the hospital and returned home with her.
However, no doctor had examined the teenager to confirm her death, and no official death certificate was issued before the family began making funeral arrangements.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in El Jocote, a village in Guatemala’s Quiché department.
Mother Notices Movement Inside the Coffin
After the family returned home, relatives and members of their community gathered to mourn the teenager, who had been placed inside a coffin.
During the wake, her mother, Lesvia Ríos, reportedly noticed movement while looking at her daughter through an opening in the coffin.
She insisted that the teenager was still alive, despite the family’s belief that she had died.
According to accounts shared with local media, Yuleidy suddenly began moving before sitting upright inside the coffin, leaving mourners shocked by the unexpected development.
