Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has admitted that he once looked down on films released on YouTube, revealing that his attitude towards the platform has changed as he embraces new opportunities in the entertainment industry.

The actor made the revelation in a post on X on Tuesday night, October 13, 2026, where he jokingly acknowledged that dismissing YouTube productions could have affected his financial stability.

“Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now,” he wrote.

His comment has sparked conversations about the growing importance of YouTube as a distribution platform for Nigerian filmmakers and actors.

For years, some industry professionals have regarded cinema releases and major streaming platforms as more prestigious avenues for film production, while YouTube movies were often overlooked.

However, the platform has increasingly become an alternative source of income and exposure for Nollywood creatives, allowing filmmakers to reach audiences directly without relying entirely on cinema screenings or subscription-based streaming services.

Timini, who has featured in YouTube movie productions, appears to have reconsidered his earlier position as the industry continues to explore new ways of financing, distributing and monetizing films.

The shift also comes amid changes in the Nigerian film market, with some filmmakers turning to YouTube as international streaming companies scale back certain local investments.

Beyond its accessibility, YouTube offers filmmakers opportunities to build audiences and earn revenue, although returns depend on factors such as viewership, advertising income, production costs and commercial agreements.

Timini’s candid admission has drawn attention to the importance of adaptability in an industry where opportunities can emerge from platforms that were once considered less attractive.

The actor’s remarks have also added to the ongoing debate about the changing definition of success in Nollywood, as filmmakers increasingly embrace different distribution channels to sustain their careers.
