The final moments of Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings were marked by a desperate search for medical assistance after he suddenly slumped, with his personal assistant revealing that they visited as many as eight hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo State, without securing the help they needed.
The singer, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, leaving fans and colleagues in shock.
His personal assistant, Babadunni Gbolabo, disclosed that he was not present when the singer collapsed but rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
According to him, those around the gospel minister attempted to revive him before taking him from one hospital to another in search of treatment.
Gbolabo said some of the hospitals reportedly cited the ongoing doctors’ strike as a reason for their inability to provide assistance, while others allegedly declined to admit the singer.
“We took him to up to seven to eight hospitals in Ibadan,” the aide said, recounting the frantic efforts to save his life.
He added that the singer had appeared healthy before the incident and that there had been no obvious indication that he was seriously ill.
The aide also disclosed that Toluwanisings’ body had been deposited at a mortuary while members of his family met to decide on the next steps, including funeral arrangements.
The tragedy has renewed public concern about access to emergency medical care in Nigeria, particularly reports of patients being turned away from hospitals during critical situations.
Toluwanisings was known for gospel songs such as A Very Big God and Onibuore. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow gospel artistes and members of the Christian community.
The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed by his family.
