Paris Saint-Germain have suffered a major setback following their impressive Champions League victory over Barcelona, with star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruled out for an extended period after suffering a serious knee injury.
The French champions confirmed on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, that the Georgian international had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona.
Kvaratskhelia is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days, although PSG have yet to announce an official recovery timeline. ACL injuries typically require several months of rehabilitation, raising fears that the 25-year-old could miss the remainder of the season.
The injury occurred during the second half of the encounter at the Parc des Princes when Kvaratskhelia landed awkwardly following a challenge involving Barcelona defender Xavi Espart.
The forward immediately grabbed his right knee and required assistance from medical staff as he left the pitch, unable to put weight on the injured leg.
His absence represents a significant blow to PSG manager Luis Enrique, who will now have to find alternatives to one of the club’s key attacking players as they pursue further domestic and European success.
Kvaratskhelia played an important role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, registering 10 goals and six assists during the campaign.
Dembélé and Marquinhos Also Injured
Kvaratskhelia was not the only PSG player to suffer an injury during the victory over Barcelona.
Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé was forced off in the first half after sustaining an injury to his left thigh. The French forward is expected to remain under medical treatment for the coming weeks.
Club captain Marquinhos also suffered a right-thigh injury and will require treatment over the same period.
The loss of three important players in one match presents a fresh challenge for Enrique, particularly with PSG continuing their demanding schedule across multiple competitions.
PSG Must Adjust as Recovery Begins
Despite the injury setbacks, PSG secured their third consecutive victory in the Champions League campaign with their 4-2 win over Barcelona.
However, Kvaratskhelia’s prolonged absence could affect the team’s attacking options in the months ahead, while the injuries to Dembélé and Marquinhos further limit Enrique’s selection choices in the short term.
The club will now focus on Kvaratskhelia’s surgery and rehabilitation, with supporters awaiting further information about his recovery and potential return.
