The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen intelligence-led policing and adopt proactive strategies to address growing security challenges across the country.
The monarch made the call during a courtesy visit by the newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Ahmed Musa, at his palace in Sokoto.
The visit formed part of Musa’s familiarisation tour following his appointment as the 25th AIG to head the zonal command.
The Sultan stressed that effective policing requires improved intelligence gathering, stronger cooperation with local communities and greater professionalism to tackle evolving security threats, particularly in the North-West.
He also commended police officers serving in Sokoto State for their sacrifices and continued efforts to protect lives and property despite the security challenges facing the region.
Abubakar congratulated Musa on his new assignment and expressed confidence in his ability to discharge his responsibilities. He also assured the police leadership of the Sultanate Council’s continued support and willingness to strengthen cooperation with security agencies.
In his remarks, Musa disclosed that he previously served as AIG in charge of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He said his experience in community policing would inform efforts to improve security across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, with greater emphasis on collaboration between police officers and residents.
The police chief, who was accompanied by the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police and other senior officers, said the visit was intended to establish closer ties with the traditional institution.
The Sultan also highlighted the importance of peaceful political activities ahead of the forthcoming general elections, offering prayers for stability, tolerance and orderly campaigns across the country.
The meeting ended with assurances of continued cooperation between the Sultanate and the Nigeria Police Force in addressing insecurity and promoting peace across the region.
