Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that he is prepared to stand by the President until the final moment.
Sani made the declaration during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, insisting that his support for Tinubu was based on conviction and the benefits he believes the President’s administration has delivered to Kaduna State.
Asked whether he was prepared to take a political bullet for Tinubu, the governor responded affirmatively.
“I have no apology for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I will continue to support him till the last minute,” he said.
Why Uba Sani Is Backing Tinubu
The governor explained that his support was influenced by his longstanding relationship with Tinubu, which he traced to 1994, when both men were involved in the struggle for the restoration of democratic rule in Nigeria.
He said their shared political history and Tinubu’s role in the pro-democracy movement had shaped his view of the President.
Sani also argued that the Federal Government had provided Kaduna State with significant appointments, infrastructure projects and support for education and transportation under Tinubu’s administration.
Four Federal University Initiatives for Kaduna
The governor said he initially approached Tinubu seeking two additional federal universities for Kaduna State but claimed the President approved four university-related initiatives.
They include the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, the Federal University of Education in Zaria, the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University of Petroleum Resources in Rigachikun, and a proposed conversion of Kaduna Polytechnic into a federal university of technology.
Sani described the initiatives as important investments in the state’s educational development.
Road and Transportation Projects
The governor also credited Tinubu with supporting major road projects in Kaduna, particularly the 123-kilometre Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road.
According to Sani, the road had remained in poor condition for decades before the President approved funding for its reconstruction. He said ₦178 billion had been released for the project.
He further mentioned funding for the rehabilitation of the road linking Jama’a, Kwoi and Jere.
On transportation, Sani said the Federal Government had supported plans for a proposed 50-kilometre light rail corridor linking Rigachikun and Sabon Tasha. He claimed that $865 million had been released for the project.
The governor also said federal support enabled Kaduna to acquire 100 compressed natural gas buses, twice the number originally planned by the state. He claimed the buses had recorded 5.2 million passenger trips over the preceding 18 months.
According to him, the scheme had helped reduce transportation costs for workers, traders, artisans and other residents.
Governor Challenges Opposition Parties
Addressing the political debate ahead of 2027, Sani challenged opposition parties to present credible alternatives if they wanted Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He also acknowledged the serious poverty and economic challenges facing northern Nigeria but argued that many of the region’s problems predated the current administration.
The governor urged northern political leaders to examine their records and accept responsibility for longstanding development challenges.
His remarks come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with economic hardship, insecurity, infrastructure and the performance of the Tinubu administration expected to feature prominently in campaign debates.
