Barriers painted in Nigeria’s national colours, green, white and green, were placed around the Holy Ka’bah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the sacred Islamic site.

The striking display attracted attention after photographs of the barriers circulated online, highlighting the Nigerian colours surrounding Islam’s holiest structure.

The arrangement was made ahead of Tinubu’s planned entry into the Ka’bah on Sunday, November 1, during his visit to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the lesser Hajj.

According to reports, the barriers were temporarily installed as preparations were made for the President’s visit, during which he was granted permission to enter the sacred structure and offer prayers.

Tinubu later expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for granting him and members of his delegation the rare opportunity.

Reacting to the display, the President said he was surprised and delighted to see Nigeria’s green-white-green colours around the Ka’bah, describing the experience as historic and deeply meaningful.

He also said his prayers focused on obtaining wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians, while reaffirming his determination to work towards national development and prosperity.

Tinubu further described his position as President and Commander-in-Chief as a blessing from Almighty Allah, stressing that political authority comes with a responsibility to serve the people.

The visit has generated reactions among Nigerians on social media, with some expressing pride in the national colours being displayed at the sacred site, while others raised questions about the temporary barriers and special access arrangements.

The Ka’bah, located inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah, is the focal point of Muslim prayers worldwide and a central site for worship during Hajj and Umrah.
