Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that he plans to relocate to Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike explained that although he may spend more time in the state as the election approaches, such visits would not amount to a permanent relocation.
Speaking during a media interaction in Abuja, the former Rivers State governor said he remained politically active and would not simply stay away while political developments unfolded in his home state.
Addressing suggestions that his return to Rivers could be connected to the presidential contest involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Wike said he would not fold his arms and allow Atiku to secure victory without opposition.
The FCT minister has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political landscape following his disagreements with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his decision to serve in President Bola Tinubu’s administration despite remaining a PDP member.
Wike also spoke about the growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly the emergence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform attracting several opposition politicians.
He maintained that his political activities should not be interpreted as an indication that he intends to abandon his responsibilities as FCT minister.
The former Rivers governor’s comments come amid heightened political activity across the country as parties and politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
