Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed that he generated about N10 million in monthly revenue from his akara business before venturing into politics.
Eno shared the experience while speaking about his personal journey and the business activities that shaped his early life.
The governor explained that he started the akara business as part of his efforts to earn a living and build financial independence before his entry into public service.
According to him, the business eventually grew significantly, generating millions of naira in revenue each month.
Eno said the experience taught him important lessons about entrepreneurship, discipline, management and the importance of creating opportunities rather than depending solely on formal employment.
He noted that small businesses can become profitable ventures when properly managed, stressing the need for young Nigerians to explore entrepreneurship and develop sustainable sources of income.
The governor also linked his business experience to his approach to governance, saying his background in entrepreneurship had exposed him to the realities faced by business owners and ordinary Nigerians.
He encouraged young people to take legitimate opportunities seriously and remain committed to building their skills and businesses despite the challenges associated with starting and running enterprises.
Eno’s account of his akara business has drawn attention to his unconventional path into politics and public leadership, particularly the scale of income he said the small food business was able to generate before he became governor.
