The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has promised to provide solar power systems for Nigerian households within 11 months of assuming office if elected president in 2027.
Adebayo said his administration would install between 11 and 15 kilowatts of solar power on every Nigerian roof as part of a broader plan to address the country’s electricity challenges.
The SDP candidate made the pledge while unveiling his presidential policy blueprint, titled Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, and subsequently discussing the proposals during an interview on ARISE News.
According to Adebayo, the plan would reduce Nigerians’ dependence on the national grid by making solar-generated electricity available at the household level.
He said the proposed energy policy forms part of a wider strategy aimed at tackling poverty, insecurity and other challenges affecting the country.
Adebayo also pledged that an SDP-led government would work towards eliminating poverty and addressing insecurity within its first four-year term.
He explained that his blueprint was developed as a comprehensive alternative for addressing Nigeria’s economic and security problems, insisting that the proposals were grounded in the Nigerian Constitution.
The presidential candidate said the party had developed additional policy documents to provide more detailed solutions to various sectors of the economy and governance.
Adebayo maintained that the SDP’s approach was based on a clear national philosophy and the application of expertise rather than the pursuit of political power for its own sake.
He further argued that the proposals contained in the blueprint could be adopted by any government willing to implement them, regardless of political affiliation.
The SDP candidate said his administration would prioritise practical solutions capable of improving living conditions, strengthening economic opportunities and addressing the insecurity confronting Nigerians.
