Governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) across the seven states of the North-West have expressed support for presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s proposal to restore fuel subsidies if the party wins the 2027 presidential election.
The candidates also backed a proposal for a ₦110,000 minimum wage as part of measures they say would ease economic pressure on Nigerians and improve living conditions.
The position was contained in a joint declaration by the ADC governorship candidates from the region as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
The candidates said Atiku’s proposed approach to fuel pricing would help address the difficulties Nigerians have faced since the removal of the petrol subsidy and the resulting increase in transportation and living costs.
They argued that government policies should prioritise the welfare of citizens while ensuring that economic reforms do not place an excessive burden on households and businesses.
The Northwest candidates also endorsed the proposed ₦110,000 minimum wage, saying workers should receive wages that reflect prevailing economic realities and the rising cost of living.
Their support for Atiku’s proposals forms part of the broader campaign agenda being developed by the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party positioning itself as an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The candidates said the region would work collectively to present the ADC’s programmes to voters and mobilise support for the party’s candidates at both the presidential and state levels.
They also stressed the importance of addressing insecurity, unemployment, poverty and other challenges affecting communities across the North-West.
The endorsement comes as political parties and emerging coalitions step up preparations for the 2027 general elections, with economic policy expected to remain a major issue in the campaign.
Atiku has continued to make the cost of living and the impact of fuel pricing central to his economic messaging, while the ADC’s Northwest candidates have now pledged to support those proposals as they seek electoral support across the region.
