Air Peace recorded the highest number of delayed domestic flights among Nigerian airlines in August 2026, with 1,330 of its 1,864 flights affected by delays, according to data from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The figure formed part of the NCAA’s August 2026 summary of domestic airline flight disruption operations, which showed that airlines collectively operated 7,961 flights during the month, with 4,765 delayed, representing about 59.9 per cent of all recorded operations.
The regulator also recorded 36 cancelled flights during the period, indicating that delays were significantly more common than outright cancellations across the domestic aviation sector.
Air Peace, which operated the largest number of flights during the month, recorded a delay rate of approximately 71.4 per cent. The airline also had seven cancellations in August.
United Nigeria Airlines recorded the second-highest number of delayed flights, with 943 delays out of 1,231 flights, giving it a delay rate of about 76.6 per cent. It also recorded eight cancellations, the highest number among the airlines monitored by the NCAA.
Enugu Air followed with 582 delayed flights from 878 operations, while ValueJet recorded 435 delays from 767 flights.
Other airlines affected included Ibom Air, with 254 delays from 560 flights; Aero Contractors, 246 from 469; Rano Air, 216 from 503; Max Air, 204 from 336; Arik Air, 188 from 301; and Overland Airways, 139 from 239 flights.
The NCAA’s figures also showed that 2,801 flights were delayed by between 16 minutes and one hour, while 1,322 flights experienced delays lasting between one and two hours.
Another 407 flights were delayed for between two and three hours, while 235 flights were delayed for three hours or more. This means 642 flights experienced delays lasting at least two hours.
Air Peace accounted for 108 of the 235 flights that were delayed for at least three hours. Enugu Air recorded 46 such delays, while United Nigeria had 41.
The latest figures highlight the extent of schedule disruptions affecting Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector, with nearly six out of every 10 flights operated in August failing to depart on schedule.
The NCAA’s data provides a breakdown of flight disruptions but does not, in the published summary, give individual explanations for every delay recorded by each airline.
