The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested six people suspected of being members or associates of an armed robbery network operating across parts of the state.
The arrests were made during a coordinated operation in Ikono, Ini and Obot Akara Local Government Areas, following intelligence gathering aimed at disrupting the alleged criminal network.
According to the police, those arrested include a man suspected of producing fake receipts allegedly used in the sale of stolen motorcycles and another man accused of providing charms and other materials to members of the group.
The operation also led to the recovery of two single-barrel shotguns, three laptops, a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen, and other items that police said could assist their investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers involved in the operation and directed investigators to establish the individual roles of the suspects.
The police also said efforts would continue to locate other members or associates of the alleged network who may still be at large.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspects are yet to be convicted of the allegations against them.
