With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the campaign trail is taking a more people-centred turn, as Seyi Makinde and Dauda Daura pledge to put direct engagement with citizens at the heart of their political activities.
The two political figures said they would prioritise town hall meetings and grassroots engagements, giving citizens opportunities to raise concerns and discuss issues affecting their communities.
Makinde, who is the Oyo State governor and the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has repeatedly said his campaign will focus on solutions and measurable outcomes rather than political slogans.
He has also advocated greater citizen participation in governance, arguing that government should be assessed by how its policies affect ordinary Nigerians, including areas such as employment, education, healthcare, food security and public safety.
Daura, meanwhile, stressed the importance of taking political conversations beyond rallies and traditional campaign events by creating platforms where voters can engage directly with candidates and campaign representatives.
The proposed town hall approach is expected to provide room for questions, feedback and discussions on issues affecting different communities.
The emphasis on citizen engagement comes as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with civil society organisations also calling for issue-based campaigns and clearer, measurable commitments from candidates.
Both politicians’ pledge places greater emphasis on direct communication with voters and grassroots participation as campaigning gathers momentum ahead of the elections.
