Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will not support Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s reported ambition to become President of the Senate in 2027.
Wike made the statement on Monday during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, amid an increasingly public disagreement between him and APC governors over his Rainbow Coalition.
The former Rivers State governor said his position was not based on personal differences, insisting that he had made his stance clear on Uzodimma’s reported Senate ambition.
Wike alleged that Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, was seeking to influence the emergence of senators and House of Representatives members who could eventually support his bid for the Senate presidency.
He argued that politicians who failed to secure tickets under the APC could contest the 2027 elections on other platforms. According to Wike, if such candidates win, they would not necessarily support Uzodimma’s ambition.
The FCT minister also criticised the APC governors’ opposition to his Rainbow Coalition, which he has described as a political arrangement focused on mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election while allowing politicians from different parties to participate.
The disagreement has brought Wike into a public clash with Uzodimma and other APC governors, who have expressed concerns about the coalition and its potential impact on APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Wike, however, maintained that the coalition was not an APC structure and that political parties should retain the right to field candidates for various elective positions.
His latest comments add another dimension to the growing political disagreements surrounding the 2027 elections and the expected contest for leadership positions in the National Assembly.
