Umahi: No ‘Rainbow Coalition’ in Ebonyi

The political temperature is already rising ahead of the 2027 elections, and Ebonyi State is making its position clear.

Former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed reports of a “Rainbow Coalition” taking shape in the state, saying Ebonyi remains aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.

Umahi was responding to questions about his relationship with Nyesom Wike and reports that a political arrangement similar to the wider Rainbow Coalition could emerge in Ebonyi.

According to Umahi, Wike has not told him that he has candidates in Ebonyi, adding that any such candidate would not be part of the political relationship he described.

“There is no rainbow coalition in Ebonyi State,” Umahi said.

He also said political groups are free to campaign in the state, but warned against what he described as hate speech or attempts to create tension.

“Anybody that wants to campaign, come and campaign,” Umahi said, while adding that nobody would be allowed to foment crisis in Ebonyi.

The comments come as political realignments and coalition discussions continue across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For now, Umahi’s message is straightforward: Ebonyi is not part of the reported Rainbow Coalition, and the state’s political structure remains with the APC.

The question now is whether this position will remain unchanged as the 2027 political season gathers momentum.

What do you think? Is the Rainbow Coalition gaining ground across Nigeria, or are states beginning to define their own political paths?
