Nigerian troops have rescued a group of travellers who were reportedly abducted by bandits while travelling from Senegal, according to security sources.
The travellers were said to have come under attack along a route in northern Nigeria, where the bandits reportedly intercepted their vehicle and took them into the bush.
The incident prompted a military response, with troops mobilising to locate the victims and prevent the abductors from taking them farther into the forest.
The operation eventually led to the safe rescue of the affected travellers, while security personnel continued efforts to track down the criminals responsible for the abduction.
The development highlights the security challenges faced by motorists and travellers using major routes across the northern part of the country, particularly in areas affected by banditry.
Security authorities have continued to intensify operations against bandit groups and other criminal elements operating along vulnerable routes.
The rescued travellers were reportedly reunited with their families following the operation.
