Nigerian clergyman Bishop Ibro Zion has criticised social media activist VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, over what he described as the activist’s recent inappropriate conduct.
Bishop Ibro Zion expressed his concerns in a public reaction to VDM, telling the activist that he had taken his alleged “charade” too far.
The bishop’s comments followed a series of recent online activities by VDM that have generated debate among social-media users and public figures.
According to Ibro Zion, while VDM has the right to express his views and criticise individuals or institutions, there should be limits to how such criticism is presented.
He urged the activist to reconsider his approach, particularly when his actions involve religious personalities and issues that many people consider sensitive.
The bishop’s remarks have sparked reactions online, with some social-media users supporting his criticism and others defending VDM’s outspoken style.
VDM has built a reputation for using social media to comment on controversial issues, frequently drawing both support and criticism from Nigerians.
The latest exchange adds to the growing list of public figures who have recently challenged or criticised the activist over his online activities.
As of the time of reporting, VDM had not publicly responded to Bishop Ibro Zion’s comments.
