The September international break may have temporarily taken Premier League football off the screen, but several of England’s top-flight stars continued their scoring form on the international stage.
Fourteen Premier League players found the net for their countries during the latest international window, with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland leading the group after scoring three times for Norway.
With Premier League action scheduled to resume on October 10, the performances have provided another reminder of the attacking talent spread across England’s top division.
Haaland Leads the Way
Haaland was the standout scorer of the international break.
The Manchester City striker scored twice as Norway defeated Denmark 3-2 before adding another goal in Norway’s 2-1 defeat to Portugal.
The three goals took Haaland’s international tally to 65 goals in 57 appearances, including 22 in the UEFA Nations League. The Premier League also noted that the Norwegian has scored five league goals for City at the beginning of the 2026/27 campaign.
At just 26, Haaland continues to produce extraordinary numbers for both club and country.
Gyökeres Continues His Scoring Form
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres was another major name on the scoresheet.
The Swedish forward scored twice during the international window, finding the net against Romania and Poland.
His two goals added to the attention surrounding his start to life at Arsenal and demonstrated that his goalscoring ability has continued beyond club football.
Wissa Makes His Mark for DR Congo
Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa also enjoyed a productive international break.
The DR Congo striker scored twice for his country, giving Newcastle supporters another reason to be encouraged about his attacking form.
Wissa’s performances are particularly significant for DR Congo as the country continues its preparations for major international competition.
Isak and Gakpo Also Score
Liverpool had two players among the Premier League’s international scorers.
Alexander Isak scored for Sweden in a 2-1 Nations League victory over Romania, while his Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo rescued a point for the Netherlands with a stoppage-time equaliser against Germany.
However, the international break was not entirely positive for Liverpool, with both Isak and Gakpo among Premier League players reported to have suffered injuries while representing their countries.
The Other Premier League Scorers
The Premier League’s review identified the following additional players who scored during the international window:
- Malick Yalcouyé — Brighton & Hove Albion: Ivory Coast
- Michael Kayode — Brentford: Italy
- Christos Tzolis — Arsenal: Greece
- Bryan Mbeumo — Manchester United: Cameroon
- Oscar Bobb — Fulham: Norway
- Nicolas Jackson — Aston Villa: Senegal
- Rayan — Bournemouth: Brazil
- Shea Charles — Fulham: Northern Ireland
- Wilson Isidor — Sunderland: Haiti
For several of these players, the goals were particularly significant.
Kayode Scores on Italy Debut
Brentford defender Michael Kayode scored on his Italy debut as the Azzurri defeated Turkey 4-1.
It was a memorable introduction to international football for the young defender.
Yalcouyé Makes His Mark for Ivory Coast
Brighton’s Malick Yalcouyé also enjoyed an impressive international debut.
The midfielder scored and won a penalty as Ivory Coast defeated Ghana 2-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
Isidor Delivers Late Drama
Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor provided one of the most dramatic moments of the break.
He scored Haiti’s winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time during a 3-2 CONCACAF Nations League victory over Trinidad and Tobago.
The striker also recorded two assists during the match.
Not Everyone Returned Unscathed
While goals provided plenty of positive headlines, the international break also brought concerns for several Premier League clubs.
The Premier League reported injuries involving players including Isak, Gakpo, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu.
For managers, the challenge now is getting their international players back into club football without further injuries.
The extended international break runs through October 6, with Premier League fixtures returning on October 10.
A Strong Warning for Premier League Defences
The international break has produced an interesting picture ahead of the Premier League’s return.
Haaland is scoring for Norway.
Gyökeres is scoring for Sweden.
Wissa is scoring for DR Congo.
Isak and Gakpo are finding the net for Sweden and the Netherlands.
And several less-established Premier League names have announced themselves on the international stage.
For defenders across England, the message is clear:
The goalscoring form has not gone on holiday.
OnPointGist
International football has once again provided a stage for Premier League players to demonstrate their quality beyond their clubs.
Haaland’s three goals made him the headline performer, but the wider list tells an even bigger story.
From established stars such as Haaland, Gyökeres, Wissa, Isak and Gakpo to emerging names such as Kayode, Yalcouyé and Isidor, Premier League talent continues to make an impact around the world.
Now the international break is almost over.
The goals will have to continue—this time back in England.
Premier League football returns on October 10.
