The Kebbi State Government has directed civil servants to strictly observe official working hours, warning workers against lateness and staying away from their duty posts without approval.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Head of the State Civil Service, Malami Shekare, dated September 23, 2026, from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the circular, official working hours in the Kebbi State Civil Service are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Shekare said the directive followed observations that some civil servants had developed the habit of arriving late at work or remaining absent from their duty posts without officially notifying their superiors or obtaining approval.
He reminded workers that the prescribed working hours were provided for under Chapter 13, Section 4, Sub-section 140122 of the Public Service Rules, 2021 Edition.
The Head of Service therefore directed all civil servants to be punctual and remain at their designated duty posts during official working hours.
He further stated that any lateness or absence from duty must be formally communicated to and approved by the appropriate authority.
The directive also instructed heads of ministries, departments and agencies across the state to ensure that their employees were informed about the circular and complied with the new directive.
The circular was addressed to senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, permanent secretaries and heads of commissions, boards and parastatals.
The state government said adherence to official working hours was necessary to ensure effective public service delivery and accountability across government institutions.
