Members of Nigeria’s National Assembly have embarked on another recess, just days after returning from a 68-day annual vacation.

The latest break follows the resumption of legislative activities by lawmakers, with the development raising renewed attention over the amount of time federal legislators spend away from plenary. Daily Trust reported the development on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

The lawmakers had earlier spent 68 days on their annual recess before returning to the chambers to resume legislative duties.

However, their latest decision to proceed on another break means plenary activities will again be suspended after only a short period of sitting.

The National Assembly is responsible for considering and passing legislation, approving government spending and performing oversight functions on the executive arm of government.

The latest recess comes as lawmakers have several legislative and national issues before them, with their return expected to determine when plenary proceedings and other legislative activities will fully resume.

Daily Trust’s report did not indicate that the latest break was another annual vacation, distinguishing it from the earlier 68-day recess.
