Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called on the government to urgently improve living conditions for internally displaced persons at the Ramin Kura camp in Sokoto State.

Obi made the call during a visit to the camp, where more than 1,000 displaced persons are reportedly being accommodated.

He expressed concern about the conditions at the facility and urged authorities to provide better accommodation and other essential amenities for people forced to leave their communities because of insecurity.

The former governor said displaced persons deserved adequate support while efforts were made to address the circumstances that forced them from their homes.

He also called for greater attention to the humanitarian needs of affected communities, including access to basic services and facilities that could improve the welfare of displaced families.

The visit comes against the backdrop of continuing security challenges in parts of Sokoto State, which have forced some residents to leave their communities. Recent reports have also highlighted displacement linked to attacks and insecurity in the state.

Obi urged government authorities and relevant agencies to strengthen support for internally displaced persons and ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches those affected.

He also stressed the need for long-term measures to enable displaced residents to safely return to their communities and rebuild their livelihoods.

The call adds to growing concerns over the conditions facing Nigerians displaced by insecurity and the need for sustained humanitarian assistance alongside security measures.
