Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has questioned a ₦18,912 deduction from his Guaranty Trust Bank account, describing the charge as an “independence robbery”.
Solade raised the issue in a video shared on Instagram on Thursday, October 1, Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day. He said the amount was deducted from his account as a service charge but expressed confusion over the size of the deduction.
The 66-year-old actor said he had been banking with the institution since 1995 and questioned what could have warranted a charge of almost ₦20,000.
According to Solade, he wanted to know whether other customers had experienced similar deductions and called on those affected to speak up.
He wrote in the caption accompanying the video, **“What an independence robbery. It’s all banks. It’s like they are gathering success through our money.”
The actor’s complaint has since attracted reactions online, with some other social media users sharing concerns about deductions from their own accounts.
As of the time of reporting, GTBank had not publicly responded to Solade’s allegation, and there was no independent confirmation that the ₦18,912 deduction was incorrectly charged.
Solade has been in the spotlight recently for another revelation, after recounting how he was once paid to participate in a staged healing miracle while he was still a student.
