A Nigerian Air Force aircraft has crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State while on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.
The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that the aircraft, an ATR-42, was involved in the accident on Monday and said an immediate search-and-rescue operation had been activated in collaboration with relevant authorities and emergency agencies.
The aircraft crashed around Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The NAF said further details would be released as the rescue operation progresses.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, later said the aircraft had 25 passengers and seven crew members, making 32 people on board. He said air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft at about 9:13am, before its wreckage was located near the Naval Base in Igbokoda.
