The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has appointed Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.

Kum, 56, succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure as head of the Nigerian office ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as WAEC’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.

The new WAEC Nigeria boss joined the council in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II and has risen through several positions during his nearly three decades with the organisation.

Before his latest appointment, Kum served as Deputy Registrar in the office of the Head of National Office and was also Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.

Over the years, he has held several key positions within WAEC, including Director of Administration, Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Head of the Security Printing Department and Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano.

WAEC described Kum as an experienced test developer, administrator and executive, highlighting his contributions to examination security, technology and test administration.

Among the initiatives associated with his career are enhanced security features in WAEC’s printing operations, the introduction of facial-recognition biometric attendance systems and the use of computer-based examinations for achievement tests.

Kum holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Planning.

His appointment comes as WAEC enters a new phase under Amos Dangut, who recently became the council’s 14th Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
