Farmers and residents of Nyido-Tosso Ward in Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State have raised the alarm over the collapse of the Kufai Bawuru Bridge, saying the development has severely disrupted their livelihoods and left communities struggling to access essential services.
The affected residents said the bridge had served as a vital link between their communities and surrounding areas, particularly for farmers who depend on it to transport agricultural produce to markets.
According to reports, the collapse has made movement increasingly difficult, with residents forced to take longer and more challenging routes. Farmers fear that the situation could lead to significant losses as they struggle to move their harvests to buyers.
The community members described their situation as one of “dying in silence”, appealing to the Taraba State Government and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and reconstruct the bridge.
They stressed that the infrastructure is not merely a transport link but a lifeline for communities whose livelihoods depend heavily on farming and access to markets.
The residents also warned that continued neglect could worsen the economic hardship in the area, particularly during the rainy season when already difficult routes may become even more inaccessible.
The appeal comes amid wider concerns over deteriorating roads and bridges across Taraba. Governor Agbu Kefas recently acknowledged the hardship caused by the collapse of the Namnai Bridge along the Jalingo-Wukari federal highway and directed officials to engage relevant federal agencies and the contractor over the stalled reconstruction.
For the farmers of Nyido-Tosso, however, the immediate demand remains straightforward: restore the bridge and reconnect their communities to the rest of the state.
