African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has led protesters through parts of Abuja in a demonstration calling for President Bola Tinubu to leave office.
The protest, held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, saw Sowore and his supporters chant “Tinubu must go” as they voiced opposition to the Federal Government and demanded what they described as fundamental changes in the country.
Sowore, a prominent government critic and 2027 presidential candidate, has repeatedly accused the Tinubu administration of failing Nigerians and has been mobilising supporters around calls for political change.
Protest comes amid 2027 preparations
The demonstration comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties and political movements increasingly stepping up mobilisation against the ruling administration.
Sowore has positioned his campaign around what he describes as a need for a fundamental transformation of Nigeria’s political and economic system.
In recent weeks, he has also criticised the administration over insecurity and economic hardship, arguing that Nigerians are facing worsening conditions.
Sowore’s ongoing legal battle
The protest also comes amid Sowore’s ongoing legal battle with the Department of State Services (DSS).
He is facing a cyberbullying-related case arising from social media posts in which he described President Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused him of misrepresenting the level of corruption in Nigeria. Sowore has denied wrongdoing and maintained his position.
A Federal High Court in Abuja is also expected to rule on whether DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi can be compelled to personally appear as a defence witness in the case.
Calls for political change
Addressing supporters, Sowore continued to push his message of political change, urging Nigerians to reject what he described as a failed political system.
His latest demonstration adds to a series of protests and political mobilisation efforts he has led in Abuja and other parts of the country.
The protest comes at a politically sensitive period, with opposition forces already working to challenge President Tinubu at the 2027 polls.
For Sowore and his supporters, the message remains clear: “Tinubu must go.”
