Nigerian singer Mr 2Kay has revisited the controversial 2017 attack at Eko Hotel, alleging that the men who assaulted him were sent by fellow artiste Burna Boy and subsequently robbed him of his valuables.
According to a statement attributed to the singer, the incident went beyond the physical assault as the attackers allegedly took some of his belongings during the encounter.
“When Burna Boy sent boys to beat me up in Eko Hotel, the boys attacked me and ended up robbing me. Eko Hotel later compensated me with ₦10 million but my record label gave me only ₦2 million out of it.”
What Happened at Eko Hotel?
Mr 2Kay was attacked and robbed at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos in October 2017 during the Buckwyld & Breathless concert.
Contemporary reports stated that the singer was assaulted by four men in Room 847 and lost valuables including a gold wristwatch, jewellery and phones.
The incident subsequently generated a police investigation, with then Lagos State Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal confirming that Burna Boy was invited for questioning over the matter. Burna Boy’s management, however, denied that the singer was involved in the attack.
Mr 2Kay Makes Fresh Claim
In the latest account attributed to him, Mr 2Kay claimed that Eko Hotel eventually paid him ₦10 million in compensation following the incident.
He further alleged that his record label gave him only ₦2 million from the compensation.
The claim adds another dimension to an incident that attracted considerable attention within Nigeria’s entertainment industry at the time.
Burna Boy’s Management Had Denied Involvement
It is important to note that the allegation linking Burna Boy directly to the attack was disputed at the time.
Reports from 2017 quoted Burna Boy’s management as insisting that the artiste had no involvement in the robbery and assault. Burna Boy was nevertheless questioned by the police during the investigation.
Mr 2Kay’s latest account therefore remains his personal allegation, while the circumstances surrounding the alleged compensation and the amount reportedly received by his record label would require independent confirmation.
The resurfacing of the story has once again drawn attention to one of the entertainment industry’s most talked-about controversies from 2017.
