Gunmen have killed a former youth leader of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) in Plateau State and injured two other people in separate attacks across parts of the state.
The victim, identified as Rwas Paul Danladi, was a former chairman of the BYM in Gashish District and a prominent community leader.
According to the BYM, Danladi was attacked at about 6pm on Wednesday near Rantis Village along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi Road while returning to Barkin Ladi on a motorcycle.
The association’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the killing in a statement issued in Jos on Thursday, describing Danladi as a respected member of the community.
The BYM condemned the attack and expressed condolences to Danladi’s family, friends and residents of the Gashish community.
Two others injured
The association also reported that other attacks occurred in Berom communities on Wednesday, leaving two people injured.
One of the victims was said to have sustained serious injuries during an attack around Gwom-Ajang in Foron and was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Another victim, Mafeng Samuel Lamba, was reportedly injured along Sho Road and also taken to hospital.
The BYM further alleged that Bitrus Pam Dadon was attacked along the same road, with his motorcycle reportedly stolen.
The association called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies, including the police, military and Department of State Services, to urgently investigate the incidents and apprehend those responsible.
It also urged authorities to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering along vulnerable roads and communities in Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom and other affected areas.
The group warned that proactive security measures were needed to prevent further attacks and protect residents.
As of the time of filing the report, efforts to obtain confirmation from security agencies regarding the latest killing and other reported attacks had been unsuccessful.
The latest incident comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities have recorded a series of attacks in recent weeks.
