A Yoruba elder has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term in office, saying the president should return to the presidency regardless of whether his administration is meeting expectations.

The elder made the remarks in a viral video circulating on social media, where he said his support for Tinubu was largely influenced by the president’s Yoruba identity and what he described as the turn of the Yoruba people.

He said the Yoruba community would continue to support Tinubu while acknowledging that not everything was going well in the country.

“Either Tinubu knows how to do it or he does not know how to do it. Tinubu should go back there because it is still the tenure of the Yoruba people,” he said.

The elder, however, suggested that Tinubu should not expect to win every state in the South-West, pointing specifically to Ogun and Oyo states.

“We want to support Baba. Not that everything is good in Nigeria. Not that we don’t know our rights,” he said.

He also urged the president to pay attention to complaints from residents in some South-West states, saying Tinubu should “forget Ogun State” and “forget Oyo State” because, according to him, people in those states were dissatisfied.

Despite this, he maintained that he expected Tinubu to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election and advised Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to wait for another opportunity.

“But Baba is going to win this election. Obi, go and take your time. It is not your time,” he said.

The remarks come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Other Yoruba groups have also publicly discussed Tinubu’s re-election, although their stated reasons have varied.
