Human rights activist and 2027 presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore has promised to introduce drone taxis to tackle Lagos traffic congestion if elected president, projecting that Nigerians could be flying to work by 2030.
Sowore’s proposal centres on using emerging technology to provide an alternative to road transportation, particularly in Lagos, where heavy traffic regularly disrupts commuters’ daily activities.
The presidential hopeful suggested that air-based transport could help reduce the time people spend travelling to work and ease pressure on the city’s busy roads.
However, implementing such a system would require substantial investment, appropriate infrastructure and aviation safety regulations before drone taxis could become a practical option for everyday commuters.
Sowore’s proposal adds to the discussions surrounding technology, transportation and possible solutions to Nigeria’s urban mobility challenges ahead of the 2027 general election.
