Three police officers in Ekiti State have been detained for investigation following the circulation of a viral video showing an alleged extortion incident involving a biker.
The incident reportedly occurred during a stop-and-search operation involving a member of the Biker Association at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) chapter.
According to the Ekiti State Police Command, the investigation began after representatives of the association lodged a complaint on October 6, 2026, at the Ilupeju Police Division.
The officers allegedly involved in the incident were identified and taken into custody for questioning as the authorities began investigating allegations of extortion, intimidation and other forms of unprofessional conduct.
The matter was subsequently transferred to the state police headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for a comprehensive investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, directed that the officers be subjected to appropriate disciplinary procedures, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The command condemned extortion and abuse of authority, reiterating that police personnel are not authorised to demand money from members of the public while carrying out their official duties.
It also urged residents to report cases of police misconduct through the appropriate channels, assuring the public that allegations would be investigated and officers found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the officers have yet to be established.
