The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Rivers State Government to improve security and maintain peace across the state.

Disu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at Government House in Port Harcourt.

The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the police and the state government in addressing security challenges, protecting lives and property, and maintaining public order.

According to a statement shared by the Nigeria Police Force on its official X account, the engagement was aimed at reinforcing the existing relationship between the police and the Rivers State Government.

Disu Reaffirms Commitment to Security

The police chief emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation between security agencies, government authorities and other stakeholders in tackling crime and ensuring public safety.

He maintained that effective policing requires strong institutional partnerships and coordinated efforts to address security threats and promote peaceful coexistence.

Disu’s visit also marked a return to Rivers State, where he previously served as Commissioner of Police in 2024.

During the meeting, the IGP expressed appreciation to the state government and residents for their cooperation and support during his previous assignment.

He noted that collaboration with state authorities was essential to the successful discharge of police responsibilities.

Fubara Commends IGP’s Previous Service

In his remarks, Governor Fubara praised Disu for his conduct and professionalism while serving as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State during a period of political tension.

The governor recalled that the police chief had worked under challenging circumstances and sought to maintain balance in the discharge of his duties.

Fubara expressed pleasure at receiving Disu in his new capacity as the head of the Nigeria Police Force and wished him success in addressing the country’s security challenges.

He also urged security personnel to remain impartial, resist undue influence and uphold professionalism in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

The governor reiterated his administration’s willingness to cooperate with security agencies to sustain peace and stability in Rivers State.

Partnership Expected to Strengthen Public Safety

The meeting highlighted the importance of cooperation between the state government and the police in addressing crime and other security concerns.

Both parties underscored the need for effective coordination among security institutions and government authorities to safeguard residents and maintain law and order.

The renewed commitment comes as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, a period during which security agencies are expected to play a critical role in maintaining public order.

The engagement is expected to support continued collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Rivers State Government in promoting security and stability across the state.
