Nigerian comedian and actor Julius Agwu has opened up about a personal health challenge he experienced following brain surgery in the United States in 2015, revealing that he lost sexual function after the procedure.
The entertainer made the disclosure during a recent episode of the Beer Parlour Talk Show, where he discussed the lasting effects of his medical condition on his body, career and personal life.
During the conversation, the show’s host asked whether his brain condition or the subsequent operation had affected other aspects of his health, including his sexual function.
Responding candidly, Agwu explained that his penis stopped functioning after the surgery, revealing an aspect of his recovery that he had not spoken about extensively in public.
Other participants on the programme, including Mr Patrick, discussed the possible connection between nerves and the brain while responding to the comedian’s account.
Agwu’s Battle With Brain Tumours
The comedian underwent surgery in 2015 after doctors reportedly discovered three tumours in his brain, with one said to be approximately the size of a golf ball.
The health crisis significantly affected his life and career, forcing him to confront challenges that extended beyond the initial operation.
Over the years, Agwu has spoken about the difficulties he experienced during his recovery, including memory problems and other personal struggles associated with his illness.
His latest revelation has offered further insight into the physical consequences he says followed the procedure.
Although the comedian linked the loss of sexual function to his surgery, the precise medical cause has not been independently established in the reports.
Comedian Reflects on Career and Personal Struggles
Beyond discussing his health, Agwu used the programme to reflect on his contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, particularly his role in combining music with comedy.
Proud of his influence on the comedy scene, he reiterated that he played a pioneering role in popularising music comedy in Nigeria.
However, the conversation became emotional when he spoke about his relationships with friends during his period of illness.
Agwu expressed disappointment over what he described as abandonment by people he had considered close to him, saying many stopped communicating with him while he was dealing with his health challenges.
He also reflected on the difficult experiences he had endured and expressed his feelings about those he believed had contributed to his troubles.
The comedian’s account has drawn attention to the personal challenges that can accompany serious illness, including the effects on physical wellbeing, professional life and relationships.
His disclosure has also renewed conversations about the often-overlooked complications that patients may experience after major medical procedures and the importance of support during recovery.
