The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027, declaring that opposition figures Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Donald Duke and Seyi Makinde cannot match him.

The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, made the declaration in Abuja on Thursday while receiving members of the Forum of APC House of Representatives Aspirants, led by Danjuma Mohammed.

Yilwatda argued that Tinubu’s record in office placed him ahead of other contenders, insisting that the opposition could not match the President’s performance in infrastructure development and institution-building.

He cited road projects undertaken by the current administration, including the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway and the Trans-Sahara Superhighway, as evidence of what he described as Tinubu’s achievements.

The APC chairman also criticised the former administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, during which Atiku served as vice-president, questioning the impact of a reported ₦300 billion road budget released at the time.

Yilwatda further faulted Atiku’s reported position on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), arguing that the student loan scheme had provided meaningful support to young Nigerians struggling to pay school fees and meet basic expenses.

Drawing from his experience as a former university lecturer, he said the financial assistance had helped some students pursue education while developing small businesses to support themselves.

He also questioned the criticism of the loan scheme by politicians associated with private universities that charge substantial tuition fees.

Meanwhile, Mohammed said the forum, originally established under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2022, had seen several members join the APC following subsequent political developments.

He said the group was committed to supporting Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s second-term ambition and proposed nationwide campaigns using local languages to strengthen the party’s reach.

The APC leadership welcomed the group’s support, with Yilwatda promising to integrate its members into the party’s campaign structure.

The declaration comes as political parties and prospective candidates intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ruling party projecting confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects.
