Minister of Works, David Umahi, has inaugurated members of the Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
Umahi, who heads the directorate as Deputy Director-General, said the team would be responsible for identifying, documenting and publicising infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Federal Government across Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, the minister explained that the initiative was designed to improve coordination, public awareness and communication about government infrastructure projects ahead of the presidential election.
He stated that the team’s assignment would cover projects executed not only by the Federal Ministry of Works but also by other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). This, he said, would provide a comprehensive picture of infrastructure development across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
Umahi directed the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement, who have been appointed as zonal coordinators, to work with other members of the directorate to identify and compile information on relevant projects within their respective zones.
According to the minister, the exercise would help document the infrastructure investments and development initiatives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration nationwide.
He clarified that the existing publicity activities carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works and the presidential community engagement assistants would continue. However, the newly inaugurated directorate would provide a wider platform for coordinating information on infrastructure projects undertaken by other MDAs at the zonal, state and national levels.
Umahi stressed that proper documentation and effective communication were necessary to make information about government infrastructure investments more accessible to Nigerians. He urged members of the team to work together to ensure that details of the projects were accurately compiled and effectively communicated to the public.
The minister described infrastructure development as a major contributor to economic growth, national development and community integration. He noted that investments in infrastructure could stimulate economic activities, improve connectivity between communities, create opportunities and support other sectors of the economy.
He also highlighted the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology for road construction, saying it could reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported bitumen while encouraging the use of local materials and expertise.
Umahi added that the technology could support domestic economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported construction materials and promote the delivery of more durable roads.
He urged members of the directorate to demonstrate commitment and cooperation in carrying out their responsibilities, emphasising the importance of accurate information and effective public sensitisation in communicating the government’s infrastructure investments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
