Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has questioned the handling of dividends from Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), alleging that each state of the federation should have received ₦250 billion from the proceeds.
Makinde also claimed that the Federal Government had indicated that state governors would not receive the funds until after the 2027 general elections.
The governor expressed concern over the reported delay, questioning why the distribution of funds meant to support development should be linked to the electoral calendar.
He challenged the idea that political considerations should take precedence over the needs of Nigerians, particularly at a time when states require resources to finance infrastructure, healthcare, education and other public services.
The allegation has renewed debate over the management of public revenue, transparency in government spending and the equitable distribution of funds among the states.
However, Makinde’s claims concerning the amount due to each state, the alleged expenditure of the money by the Federal Government and the timing of any proposed disbursement have not been independently verified in the account.
Further clarification from the Federal Government and relevant authorities would be necessary to establish the status of the NLNG dividends and whether the states are entitled to the amounts cited by the governor.
