Nigerian students have an opportunity to qualify for free shares in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery through a new initiative introduced by the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

The programme, known as the Student Share Grant Initiative, is designed to encourage financial literacy, savings and investment among young Nigerians by helping eligible students participate in the capital market.

Under the scheme, qualifying students who purchase at least 10 shares in the refinery’s ongoing initial public offering (IPO) may receive funding from the foundation for an additional 10 shares at no extra cost.

With each share priced at ₦525, students must invest a minimum of ₦5,250 to subscribe for their initial 10 shares.

Who is eligible?

To qualify for consideration, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible public or private tertiary institution in Nigeria, such as a university, polytechnic or college of education.
  • Not be a postgraduate student.
  • Have a valid Bank Verification Number (BVN).
  • Complete the required identity verification and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks.
  • Apply and pay for at least 10 Dangote Refinery shares through the foundation’s designated student subscription channel.

Each eligible student may be considered for the grant only once, and applications must be submitted in the student’s own name.

How to apply

Students interested in the initiative should follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official portal: Go to https://ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org/students.
  2. Verify your student status: Provide the requested details, including your institution, matriculation number, BVN, email address and phone number.
  3. Complete identity checks: Follow the instructions on the platform and complete the required verification and KYC procedures.
  4. Subscribe for shares: Apply for a minimum of 10 shares through the designated channel and pay the required ₦5,250.
  5. Wait for the grant process: Following the necessary checks, the foundation may fund a separate application for an additional 10 shares on your behalf.

The foundation’s terms make clear that meeting the eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee that it will fund the additional application.

When is the deadline?

The application deadline announced for the initiative is 27 October 2026. Interested students should check the official portal for any updates and confirm that applications are still being accepted before proceeding.

important information for applicants

The free shares are not a cash gift. The foundation may fund an application for an additional 10 shares, subject to the initiative’s terms and the IPO process.

Neither the student’s paid application nor the foundation-funded application guarantees that shares will ultimately be allotted. The value of any shares received may also rise or fall, and returns are not guaranteed.

Students are advised to use only the official foundation portal and designated subscription channel. They should never send money to an individual who claims they can guarantee free shares.

The initiative offers eligible students a chance to learn about investing while potentially gaining a stake in one of Nigeria’s major industrial projects.
