Fulani community leaders in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have rejected the continued presence of the Department of State Services (DSS), Operation Rainbow and local vigilante groups in their communities, calling instead for the deployment of soldiers to provide security.

The leaders reportedly raised concerns over the conduct of the security outfits, alleging that their operations had heightened fear and mistrust among Fulani residents in the area.

Their position comes amid renewed tensions and recurring attacks in Mangu, where communities have continued to face security challenges, including killings, cattle rustling and allegations of attacks by armed groups.

The disagreement has further complicated efforts to restore peace, with different community groups offering conflicting accounts of the violence and the conduct of security personnel.

Fulani leaders have reportedly argued that the military would be a more appropriate option for protecting residents and preventing further attacks.

However, allegations against the DSS, Operation Rainbow and local vigilantes have not been independently established, and the security situation remains sensitive.

The development comes as security agencies intensify operations in Plateau State following a series of deadly attacks in Mangu and neighbouring areas. The Nigerian Army has previously strengthened its presence in the local government in a bid to improve its response to emerging threats.

The latest dispute highlights the urgent need for impartial security operations, transparent investigations into allegations of misconduct and stronger cooperation among communities and security agencies.
