Members of the public have been warned against donating to a viral fundraising campaign purportedly created to support the wife and children of late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings.
Lanre Alewilese, a gospel singer and friend of the deceased, disowned the appeal after a fundraising flyer featuring Toluwanisings’ photograph began circulating on social media.
The flyer reportedly sought financial contributions for the welfare of the singer’s immediate family following his death.
Reacting to the development, Alewilese described the fundraising appeal as false and urged social media users to report the account responsible for spreading it.
He stressed that any legitimate fundraising initiative would be announced through Toluwanisings’ official platform, warning well-wishers against sending money through unauthorized channels.
The disclaimer comes amid an outpouring of condolences following the singer’s death on October 14, 2026, which has left fans and members of the gospel music community mourning.
Toluwanisings was known for his gospel music ministry and songs that attracted listeners within Nigeria’s Christian music scene.
As tributes continue to pour in, members of the public are being advised to verify donation requests directly through the singer’s official social media accounts or authorised family representatives before making financial contributions.
The incident highlights the risk of fraudulent fundraising appeals targeting people’s sympathy following the death of public figures.
The public is urged not to send money to the viral fundraiser unless its authenticity is confirmed by the family or the singer’s verified official channels.
